If anyone hasn't seen the udderly epic MOOvie ''MOOsters of speed'', check it out on Vimeo.

Looks like I've finished 9th in the 2011 gps world ranking. Obviously that will refresh tomorrow and we'll start again, which could be a good start for us looking at Tuesday/Wednesday forecast.

I've spent xmas week in the SW and NE!, been getting loads of time on the water. Not sure if the next couple of days is worth the drive around anywhere, especially with what's about to hit mid week...

Happy New Year

Coldest day ever for me windsurfing. I've done Kirby at 4 degrees 40knots in sleet, and Saltburn at 4 degrees and snowing, but this sunny day definitely somehow topped them both. Too cold to snow maybe! (although it did leaving Leicester)

It was forecast a 4 degree max and a NW wind so I guess no big surprise. The only thing that suffered though were my fingers. I had to endure two full bouts of hot aches.. I think I'll look for a thicker pair of palmless mitts. (as usual wore polypro hooded vest, boots n mitts)

I used the Gopro for a change, but as the sun was low it came out pretty blurry, though I managed to rescue these groovy stills..

This was actually my first time out officially fully Simmer'd up. Simmer wetsuit, 5.3 Simmer Blacktip, 85 Simmer Fly (K4fins mind! -plumped for the safe bet of 14 rears and 10 fronts, I'll experiment more next time out).

West Kirby video
Check this great vid of West Kirby on the 27th of November by Mark Bailey..

And my speeds for Thursday have been ratified and added to the rankings on GPSSPEEDSURFING putting me 9th in the world for 2011. Hopefully I can improve that a little before the end of the year.
Going slow to go quick
Image

Just a quick one as I'm slammed.

Desiel -too pricey and too many forecasts is killing me this month. So I'm taking desperate measures and slowing down. I've knocked 20mph off my speed everywhere after Richard Hobsons fuel saving tips, and started using Shell instead of Tesco after Julian Leaches tip that it's better. Seems to be working, but someone should still hide my keys.

Kirby has been very nearly epic -it's certainly delivered a couple of fun and entertaining days of proper wind. Plenty of PB's, plenty of Wipe outs, but nobody quite hitting 50. Martyn Ogier came closest with 49.5knots.

Wednesday the 7th was broad and very choppy (see pic!)

Rich from Dave Nobles came with me and took some of these pics.

I managed to win the day. (shame Farrel wasn't around to push me harder as I know he likes the death chop too). Martyn Ogier had the fastest run with a 46knot 10 second time. FULL RESULTS AND RIDER COMMENTS HERE

Thursday actually turned out to be the better day with a tighter course, less chop and higher averages. Jacques won this day with his usual effortless sailing, and I managed the fastest run with a 46.38knot 10 second time (my best ever, although my peak was only 47.5). FULL RESULTS AND RIDER COMMENTS HERE

Unfortunately my 5 times 10 second average was only 44.6 (despite the 46) but this should put me in the top 10 for 2011 once it's ratified.

I didn't wipe out at all during the two days and actually felt pretty in control, even upwind during the biggest squall we had I felt comfortable (55knots?). Looks like we may get more strong winds (possibly 60+ fingers crossed) which I'm really looking forward to after all this practice and tuning... BRING IT ON!!!
