Super fast Kirby
WEST KIRBY
Wednesday 1st October

Image

What a fantastic day's sailing! Almost perfect for speedsailing with a solid 30Knot WNW blowing from dawn 'til dusk and occasional sunshine, many sailors achieving their personal bests.

Adam Gustafsson and Simon Hinkley made the trip up from Cornwall and John Smalley came over from Jersey especially!
Standout of the day though was Farrell 'fast Faz' O'shea who blitzed everyone with a GPS max of 47.4 Knots! and it wasn't even that windy..

I managed to equal my best gps times on my new Simmer 5.2, which seems to be working really well. I could perhaps have done with the 5.7 as the course was very broad, but was hoping for that 'special gust'.
One of my favourite games at Kirby is seeing just how close I can sail to the wall. I found out exactely how close yesterday. Pics by John Smalley.

Hmm. Is that my fin scraping along the wall base?..

Er yep. Over the bars we go!

Luckily everything survived the crash, but my 25 Techtonics is now a 22...

Shame I'd taken the headcam off which I'd worn for most of the day!
